Traditional Belgian Cougnou Sweet Bread

  1. Bake the breads. Preheat the oven to 180°C. Bake the cougnous for 20 to 25 minutes, until they are evenly golden on the outside and sound hollow when tapped lightly underneath. Remove from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack so the crumb sets properly.

Serving and Storage

Enjoy the cougnou slightly warm or at room temperature, sliced or torn by hand. It can be served plain or with butter. Once cooled, store it wrapped in a clean cloth or airtight container to preserve its softness for the following day.
